The 2007 District V Professional of the Year Award is being awarded to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Parks and Recreation profession.
This years recipient started his career by playing college football for the University of Auburn and was drafted by Seattle in the 5th round of the 1987 NFL Draft. He played seven years in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and played in 2 Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.
He has been employed with the Opelika Parks and Rec. Dept. since November 4, 1996. During this time he has reorganized the football program to accommodate more children and made the Covington Center an active facility by creating special programs such as the Senior and Preschool programs. He is also Co-chair of the Opelika sports-plex and Aquatics Center Fundraising Committee.
This year he has instituted Hershey Track with 2 going to Hershey’s and one winning 2nd place.
He serves on the Board of directors of the Alabama Recreation and Parks Foundation, is a LEAD graduate, and has been on the membership committee where he is currently the committee Chair. Serves on the Selection Committee for the New Executive Director and is on the 2008 Conference Program Committee. He does motivational speaking at various organizations and schools, and is the commentator for Opelika Middle School Football.
He is married with 2 sons and 1 daughter and is very active in his church.
